3 Reasons To Hire A Tutor For The SAT

Posted on

Taking the SAT is one of the first steps towards applying to college. This test is not like others you will take in school. Rather than testing memorization of certain subject matter, it really focuses on your ability to reason, perform math operations, and think through problems. For this reason, if you want to do well, you need to take time to prepare for the exam, specifically. Some students study on their own or take an SAT prep class, but the best choice, in many cases, is to hire a tutor. Here are three reasons hiring a tutor is usually the best choice.

1. You can work at your own pace.

If you take an SAT class, the class will move at a certain pace, and it will be up to you to follow along with that pace. If it takes you a little longer than others to catch on to a certain concept, you may miss out on learning that concept entirely. If you already know a certain concept, then the time you spend in class that session may be wasted. With a tutor, you get to move at your own pace, moving past a concept when you're ready to do so and spending less time on concepts you already know well.

2. Your tutor will hold you accountable.

Studying for the SAT is hard work, and if you are the type of person who tends to procrastinate or put off tasks that you find difficult, you may need someone to hold you accountable. If you study on your own, there will be nobody there to hold you accountable. If you are in a class, you will be just another number. A tutor, on the other hand, will be there with you at each session, expecting you to have done the work assigned last time. You will do the work because you won't want to let them down.

3. Your tutor can personalize their style to meet your needs.

Some people learn better with visual aids. Others need to hear the material. By the time you're partway through high school, you probably have an idea of how you learn best. Share this information with your tutor, and they can tailor their sessions to meet your needs. You will learn more and learn faster this way that in a class where multiple learning styles must be catered to.

Hire an SAT/ACT tutoring service, and you will learn more -- and probably achieve a higher test score than with other methods.
